The continuing winter storm has caused the City of Belleville to delcare a “Significant Weather Event”.
The declaration is covered under the provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards Regulations and is meant to inform drivers and residents that the city may not be able to meet its maintenance standards due to heavy snowfall.
City spokesperson Marilyn Warren says it won’t change how winter snow clearing operations are performed, but it may take city staff longer than usual to get roads, bike lanes and sidewalks back to up to par.
The city will provide an update once the declaration is lifted.
The storm has also caused a number of events to be rescheduled and you can see our updated list of cancellations by clicking here.
