The 6th and final round in the “Battle of Quinte” goes to the Trenton Golden Hawks.
Micahel Mannara scored 1:13 into overtime to give Trenton a 2-1 victory in Wellington extending their winning streak to 7. After getting outshot 47-30 G-Hawks coach Thomas Milne had praise for goaltender Anand Oberoi.
Jeff Lindsay also scored for Trenton with Elijah Gonsalves responding for Wellington.
Dukes coach John Druce says it certainly felt like a playoff game.
The Dukes won the season series 4-1-1 with 3 games decided in overtime.
The win moves the Golden Hawks into a first place tie with Cobourg in the OJHL East. The Cougars have 3 games in hand. Wellington is in 4th place and about to clinch a post season berth for the 30th consecutive season.
Both teams are off until Friday when Trenton hosts Kingston and Wellington is home to St. Michaels.
In Junior “C” hockey, Noah Brant scored 2 goals and an assist as the Picton Pirates beat Amherstview 6-2.
In Gananoque, Ryan Casselman scored a pair to lead the Napanee Raiders over the Islanders 4-2.
