Stubborn fire in city’s east end

A fire at a century home in the east end of the city has kept firefighters busy this morning.

The call came in around 1:45 a.m. for smoke visible at 215 Herchimer Avenue. The building is the location of the Komosis Hair Studio and Day Spa.

Belleville firefighters from two stations responded to the call.

The fire which seemed to be contained to the addition to the home, put up a stubborn fight as firefighters switched to a defensive attack shortly before 4 a.m.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area as firefighters continue to fight the blaze.

A cause and damage estimates are unknown at this time.
