Eastern Ontario municipalities are hoping a new federal ministry, announced Monday, will mean federal money for the proposed multi-million dollar high-speed internet project.
The Eastern Ontario Regional Network has been working on the project to improve internet access for rural areas for the past four years.
EORN spokesperson Jim Pine tells Quinte News the plan now is to have local MP help get a meeting with the new Minister of Rural Economic Development to ensure a $71 million commitment from Ottawa.
The municipalities have committed $10 million and the province $71 million, already.
Pine says the people of the north in Eastern Ontario, particularly businesses, need the high speed service.
Bernadette Jordan was sworn in as Minister of Rural Economic development in Ottawa on Monday.
Pine noted Jordan is from rural Nova Scotia and he thinks she understands the internet issue.
