It’s a milestone year for Batawa Ski Hill.
The hill, which was opened in 1959 is celebrating its 60th anniversary this winter.
It opened with one run and a truck-powered tow rope to get skiers to the top and was built by volunteers and ski enthusiasts from the nearby Bata Shoe Factory.
Batawa’s Communications Coordinator Dan Schell says the hill has come a long way since then.
Schell says they plan to celebrate by sharing stories about the hill’s history on social media.
The hill now also features state of the art snow making equipment, a terrain park with jumps, reals and other features, as well as nightskiing under Canada’s first LED lights for a ski hill.
