It’s not often you get shutout but have something to show for it, but thanks to goaltender Marcus Hogberg, the Belleville Senators do.
Hogberg stopped 35 shots before the Toronto Marlies pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory at Coca Cola Coliseum. Adam Brooks scored the game’s only goal at 2:05 of o.t.
The score doesn’t tell the story, the shots do. 36-10 Toronto. Belleville was playing their third game in less than 48 hours however Hogberg says fatigue was not a factor.
Belleville’s lineup was already decimated by injuries and call-ups to the parent Ottawa Senators and the situation worsened late in the first period when Filip Chlapik blocked a shot off his ankle and left the game. He did did not return. With Nick Paul re-called by Ottawa last week the B-Sens were missing their top two centres. Chase Balisy did double duty in the face-off circle. He says Belleville did what was needed to steal a point from the Marlies.
Belleville took five out of six points over the weekend. They continue a season long 8 game road trip Wednesday night in Laval. CJBQ will have the play by play beginning at 7:20.
