(Stefan Elliott)
The Belleville Senators have added needed depth ahead of their first 3 game weekend of the AHL season.
The Ottawa Senators have acquired 27 year old defenceman Stefan Elliott and 23 year old forward Tobias Lindberg from the Pittsburgh Penguins for 27 year old forward Ben Sexton and ECHL defenceman Macoy Erkamps.
Elliott and Lindberg had been playing for Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scrnaton. Both will report to Belleville.
Elliott was originally a 2nd round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2009. He has played in 84 NHL games scoring 8 goals and 16 assists. He was a member of Canada’s bronze medal winning Olympic team last year. This season Elliott had a goal and 7 assists in 20 games with Wilkes-Barre.
Lindberg returns to the Senators organization after being acquired by Toronto in the Dion Phaneuf trade. Lindberg scored 2 goals and 4 assists in 15 AHL games this season. Lindberg will be familiar with Belleville having played for the Oshawa Generals in the 2014-14 OHL season.
Ben Sexton was in his second season with the B-Sens but had not scored a goal in 17 games. Sexton did have 9 assists.
The Belleville Senators have a 3 game weekend beginning tomorrow night when they host the Laval Rocket. The Providence Bruins are here Saturday before Belleville meets the Marlies Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
