Prime Minister Justin Trudeau showed up at the LIUNA Local 183 facility in Cobourg Friday night to a large capacity crowd, to introduce Northumberland-Peterborough South MP Kim Rudd as the candidate for the riding for the 2019 federal election.
The pair have a history over the past 10 years, with Trudeau being in the riding five times over the last few years.
Trudeau said he remembered being in Port Hope about three years ago (Oct. 12/15) just prior to the last federal election, and he was happy to be back to support Kim.
Trudeau said he listened to everyone’s input.
“I need to thank you, to every single one of you who told me, who told Kim…who said, universally, over the last three months, with the Americans, stay strong, stand up for Canada, be polite, but be firm. And it worked.”
He said the vast majority of Canadians were united on this issue, and they had to get it right.
He said the next campaign has to be about moving forward in thoughtful ways, and that the candidates have to continue to be strong voices for their ridings in Ottawa.
I can’t think of a better person to represent you here, he added.
Kim thanked her family for all their support in supporting her in the job she loves.
And she says Trudeau shows true leadership
“I grew up believing that hard work, commitment, a sense of community, a sense of fairness was how I wanted to live my life, and part of the reason we picked this amazing community,” she said.
She’s looking forward to being part of Team Trudeau after the October 2019 federal election.
