Prince Edward County officials are putting out some information to residents in case workers with Canada Post end up going on strike.
The bulletin covers the mailing of voter notification cards, the paying of municipal taxes, parking fines, or water bills and payment of provincial offences.
Communications coordinator Mark Kerr says if you haven’t received a voter notification card by the end of September, you should contact the elections office to make sure you’re on the list.
He also says that all municipal fines, tax payments, or provincial offence payments must still be paid by the date they are due, despite any possible postal disruption.
Unionized Canada Post workers were facing a strike or lockout deadline as of today (Wednesday), but have agreed to continue negotiations on a new contract.
However workers may still hit the picket lines if there is no progress made in the bargaining process.
Here’s how to handle those payments and other issues should that strike happen:
Voter Information Cards
– If you don’t receive your voter information card you should contact the elections office at elections@pecounty.ca, or call 613-476-2148
Municipal taxes, water payments and fines
– Can be made online via the County’s payment webpage
– Directly through your banking institution’s telephone or online banking service for water bills and property taxes
– At any Canadian financial institution
– In person (cash, cheque, debit) at Shire Hall (332 Picton Main Street) between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
– After hours drop off located at east side of Shire Hall (no cash please)
Fines for provincial offences
– In person (cash, cheque, debit or credit) at Provincial Offences Act Office at Shire Hall
– After hours drop off located at east side of Shire Hall (no cash please)
– Any other provincial offences office in Ontario
– Online via the County’s payment webpage
