Just two weeks running and Belleville’s bus with an app connectivity is looking like a success.
In a North America first, Belleville has joined with the Toronto company Pantonium to set up an Uber-style bus service.
It’s on the late night circular route bus, route 11, after regular hours.
And for the past two weeks there’s been an app for that, allowing riders to book pick-up and drop-off.
Transit committee chair Councillor Jack Miller commented on the feature during Monday night’s council meeting.

In just two weeks of the experiment the registered riders on the app have doubled.
Miller told council it was an “exciting” project and noted it is scheduled to make national TV news on Friday night.
He also said Belleville is heading for a million riders this year.
Transit Manager Paul Buck told council the route has 1500 passengers a month on the route that runs 9:30 p.m. to midnight on weekdays and longer hours on the weekends.
