After news this week that Belleville’s Yardmen Arena will be renamed, the city is answering criticism about the move, saying the group who helped raise money and build the rink won’t be forgotten.
Clauses in the arena lease agreement with the Belleville Senators gave the team the option to sell naming rights and the Canadian Automobile Association reached a deal this week to do that, renaming the rink CAA Arena.
The City says knowing the renaming was a possibility it has taken a “proactive approach by working with family members of the Yardmen to build an appropriate pictorial and written story of their great accomplishment”.
Details on a renaming and recognition ceremony, along with the “inside and outside displays” are to come.
