Quinte West’s Fire Chief is reminding people with a chimney to get it inspected every year before using the fireplace for the first time.
The warning comes after a chimney fire at a home on Carman Road in Murray Ward, just before noon Thursday.
Chief John Whelan says the older chimney hadn’t been cleaned in a couple of years and was cracked, causing the small fire, which could have been worse.
He says quick work from Quinte West firefighters helped to limit the damage, but the chimney will likely need some repairs and inspection before it can be used again.
