Employment statistics for people on assistance in the Hastings-Quinte area shot up during the summer.
Hastings-Quinte Community and Human Services Committee reports that its Employment Connection program continued to fill an increased number of jobs in the summer.
It filled 164 jobs with people on assistance during the month of July.
At a committee meeting recently, Chair Councillor Garnet Thompson said, “That looks pretty good.”
The average wage was $15.13 an hour.
Nearly half of the positions were general labour jobs, with retail positions and manufacturing next.
