A new townhouse development proposal is on its way to Belleville city council.
The development site is at 240 Yeomans Street, not far from the site of the city’s new police station.
The proposal from a numbered company, 2460467 Ontario Inc., presented to the city’s Planning Committee Tuesday night, calls for 62 units in four three-storey stacked blocks.
The development is located between a commercial plaza to the west and an apartment complex to the east.
The developer is asking for rezoning since the stacked homes aren’t permitted under present zoning.
Councillor Jack Miller questioned the use of the term affordable housing in the staff report.

Miller also expressed concern about the requested reduction of space between it and the apartment building to the east, less than half of what is in the by-law. He noted the owner of that apartment building had not made any written comment to the city on the issue.
If it gains city approval, the company is expected to break ground on the project next spring.
The city’s Planning Committee is recommending city council approve the zoning change.
