Belleville’s mayor and other eastern Ontario officials took the opportunity to raise a number of issues with the Ford government during this week’s meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario in Ottawa.
Mayor Taso Christopher says they met with Minister of Infrastructure Monte McNaughton, bringing him up-to-date on the city’s infrastructure work.
Christopher says they told the minister that eastern Ontario needs money “right now.”
He said, “It’s nice to eliminate some of the red tape and make sure the resources get to eastern Ontario a lot quicker.”
He says McNaughton is “interested in inviting me back up to Toronto, once he gets the lay of the land of the portfolio…”
Christopher tells Quinte news they also got a clearer understanding of the new municipal accommodation tax for hotels and motels, which the city is looking at to boost tourism.
