Belleville businesses are taking advantage of the city’s “facade program” which is aimed at improving the buildings in the city’s downtown centre.
City council recently approved a total of $20,000 for Funk and Gruven at 52 Bridge Street East, which includes $5,000 for improvements at the “rear” of the building.
Councillor Mitch Panciuk voted against it.

Council also approved grants of $12,574 for the Rustic Cafe on Campbell Street, $11,544 to Rebecca Burlington for work at 384 and 388 Front Street, and another to Richard Belanger for $7,950 for the building at 302 Front Street.
The city provides 75% of the project up to $20,000 and the business must put up the other 25%. The project must be completed within two years.
