The President of wpd Canada says the company is “shocked by the news” that the PC government plans to cancel its White Pines project in Prince Edward County.
In a statement to Quinte News, Ian McRae says the project has been under development for 10 years and is nearing completion, with more than 100 workers on site on Tuesday.
McRae also noted that the company has had no notice of potential cancellation from the government and that they won’t make any decisions until they see the proposed legislation.
He says their intent is to have the project operational by the fall and that should the project get cancelled, they will be “seeking full compensation for any and all losses associated with the project”.
He adds, cancelling the project would leave taxpayers on the hook for close to $100 million.
