OPP say they believe a series of grass fires along Highway 401 in Port Hope yesterday were deliberately set.
About 15 fires were set on the eastbound side of the highway between East Townline Road, through to the Toronto Road exit, near the Port Hope OnRoute.
Two OPP aircraft were dispatched to search for a suspect vehicle and make sure the flames hadn’t spread any further.
Police say the fires had a potential to be disastrous and are asking anyone who might have information about who set them to call OPP or Crimestoppers.
Firefighters had the flames out quickly and no injuries were reported, but two lanes and the shoulder of the highway were closed for a brief time, causing some traffic delays.
