There will be $100,000 distributed this year as part of the Heritage Grants program.
Following a recorded vote on Tuesday night at their council meeting, Prince Edward County Council decided they would continue to make heritage a priority in the municipality.
The money was set aside during the 2018 budget discussions and Mayor Robert Quaiff says this has been discussed repeatedly and it is time they followed through on their commitment.
There were questions about how this funding would benefit the community as a whole, and suggestions that the issue be deferred to the next council, allowing them to take it in a direction they see fit.
He said they aren’t a lame duck council and it would be disgusting to sit back and do nothing for the next four months.
He said they need to follow through with their promises.
Council voted eight to five in favour of the recommendation.
