Longtime Kingston-area PC member Randy Hillier says he will run to be Speaker of the House, adding he wants to elevate the level of debate in the legislature.
The speaker acts as an impartial arbiter during debate and is selected at the start of every new term by a secret ballot of legislators.
Hillier, who has served as MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston since 2007, is the only declared candidate so far.
The legislature is expected to be recalled for a summer session next week, with newly sworn-in Premier Doug Ford expected to give a throne speech laying out his government’s priorities. (The Canadian Press)
