The Alliance to Protect Prince Edward County is again criticizing the Independent Electricity System Operator for decisions it has made regarding the WPD White Pines project in South Marysburgh.
APPEC says Wind Concerns Ontario has found the IESO gave final approval to the White Pines project during the election campaign, which is against the common practice for government projects after the writ has dropped.
WCO’s Jane Wilson tells Quinte News it’s not the first time the IESO has “coloured outside the lines”.
While the company is planning to have its nine turbines operational by the end of the year, Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith says that may not be the case.
He tells Quinte News, the final approval should have never been given during the election period and it’s completely unacceptable that it did.
There are still some permit approvals that haven’t gone through and a pair of outstanding legal cases involving the company as well.
Smith says new Premier Doug Ford and his cabinet will be sworn in on Friday and they’ll begin to look into the decision.
