If you have tickets for a hockey game in Wellington tonight, you won’t need them
Zac Uens scored the OJHL North-East Conference championship round winning goal at 1:29 of overtime to give the Wellington Dukes a 3-2 over Aurora to win the series in 5 games. Uens says the Dukes learned a lot from their own success in the previous series.
Mitch Martan and Josh Supryka also scored for Wellington while Jonah Captriotti turned aside 26 shots.
After playing seven games in each of the first two series the Dukes will get a few days off. Coach John Druce says they can use it.
Wellington will find out tomorrow night who they play for the Buckland Cup when the Toronto Patriots take on the Georgetown Raiders in game 7 of the South-West Championship. As both of those teams finished higher in the standings the Dukes will likely open on the road.
The Buckland Cup is the second last step toward the National Championship RBC Cup which will be hosted in Chiliwack B.C. this year. Wellington has appeared in the national tournament twice. 2011 in Camrose Alberta where they lost Vernon in the semi finals. The other
is 2003 in Charlottetown where they also lost in the semi finals….to the Humbolt Broncos.
