The Belleville Senators offence will get a boost as junior hockey star Alex Formenton will join the AHL team for the rest of the season.
The 18 year old Formenton was the second round pick of the Ottawa Senators IN 2017 and played one game for them at the beginning of this NHL season. Formenton scored 29 goals and 48 points in 48 games with the London Knights. He added 7 points in 4 playoff games before London was eliminated. Formenton was also part of Team Canada’s gold medal win at the World Junior Hockey Championships where he scored twice with 2 assists in 7 games.
As he still has one year of junior remaining Formenton won’t be eligible to play in Belleville next season. If he doesn’t crack Ottawa’s lineup he will have to return to London.
Formenton is expected to make his Belleville debut tomorrow (Wed) night when the Senators host the Springfield Thunderbirds at the Yardmen Arena at 7:05. (6:50 on CJBQ)
