(Dukes captain Colin Doyle)
They needed 7 games and 19 seconds but the Wellington Dukes are on to round 3 of the OJHL playoffs.
Campbellford native Colin Doyle scored 19 seconds into overtime as the Dukes defeated Newmarket 3-2 to complete a stunning comeback in a series they once trailed 3 games to 1. It was Doyle’s second of the game.
Newmarket tied it with less than one second left in regulation but Doyle says Wellington found a way to shake it off.
Teddy McGeen scored a goal and two assists and Mitch Martan added a pair of helpers. Jonah Capriotti stopped 27 shots.
Dukes Assistant Coach Mike Farrugia called it an incredible series.
Wellington gets little time to savour the win as they open the OJHL North-East final in Aurora tomorrow night. The Tigers finished 4 points ahead of the Dukes in the regular season. Game 2 is in Wellington Saturday at 7:30.
