Madison Excavating – Minor Peewee
The Madison Excavating Minor Peewee Quinte Red Devils clinched the series against the Ajax Pickering Raiders in the second round of playoffs and secured themselves a spot in the OMHA Minor Peewee AAA Championships in Markham, March 16-18.
The Devil’s played host to the Raiders on Wednesday in Madoc. The Devils came out ready after a tough loss over the weekend that tied the series at 1-1. With the stands filled with fans Quinte was ready to play. The first set would end with no score. Ty Therrien would open up the scoring in the second on the set up from Jared Langdon to make it 1-0. The Devils would continue their offence in the third with a goal from Beckett Ewart, assisted by Deacon Ellis to make it 2-0. Gage Butcher would deke his way in to add another less then a minute later on the pass from Thomas Kuipers making it 3-0. Dean Spry would turn away the Raiders and record the shut out for the win.
Quinte would take to the road for game 4 on Saturday hoping to take the series with a win. The Devils hit the scoreboard first with a goal from Landon Wright on the set up from Ty Therrien and Ben Vreugdenhil in the dying minutes of the first. Deacon Ellis would take a shot from the point to give the Devils a 2-0 lead, assisted by Brody Partridge and another by Therrien. The Raiders would sneak one past the Devils netminder a few minutes later but Quinte answered back only seconds later to retake the two goal lead with a shot from Brody Partridge, assisted by Ben Vreugdenhil. Before the end of the second the Raiders would close the gap to 1 goal making it a 3-2 game going into the third. The two teams battled back and forth in the third and it would be an empty netter by Partridge, assisted by Carson Campbell that would seal the 4-2 victory. Mike McIvor was strong between the pipes for the Devils. The win closes the series and sends the Devils to the OMHAs next weekend in Markham.
On Deck: The Madison Excavating Minor Peewees will be in Markham next weekend participating in the OMHA Championships.
Foley Bus Lines – Minor Bantam
The Foley Bus Lines Minor Bantams have won the opening two games against the York Simcoe Express to take a 4 to 0 point lead in the OMHA Semi Final Series.
On Mar 10, the Bus Liners hosted the Express in game one of the series, in Cobourg. Each team skated to a scoreless first period. It was in the second period when Owen Beck scored the opening power play goal, on feeds from Dalyn Wakely and Donovan McCoy. The Devils were hanging onto a one goal lead in the third period when Liam Filip found the back of the Express net on passes from Trevor Hoskin and Connor Hunt. The Devils would hang on despite last minute pressure, for the 2 to 0 win. Brady Spry recorded the shutout win in the Devils cage.
On Mar 11, the Devils travelled to the Bradford Rec. Centre to take on the Express in game 2. The Express applied early pressure and took an early 3 goal lead in the first period before the Devils answered with a goal from Noah Richard. The Richard goal was assisted by Donovan McCoy and Cooper Matthews. The Devils were down by a score of 3 to 1 heading into the second period. It was all Devils in the second as they mounted a come-back, scoring 3 goals to take the lead. Dalyn Wakely scored a pair with two assists going to Cooper Matthews and one to Trevor McDowell. Connor Hunt added the third goal on assists from Owen Beck and Kellen Dostaler. The Devils had a 4 to 3 lead going into the third when the Express struck early in the third to tie the game at 4. Just minutes later, Owen Beck would score to retake the lead on feeds from Liam Filip and Sami Douglas-Najem. The Devils would hang on to the one goal lead to win the game by a score of 5 to 4. Corbin Votary and Brady Spry shared the duties in the Devils net.
On Deck: Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday March 14; at the QSWC, with the puck drop scheduled at 7:45 pm.
