There’s a new Honorary Colonel of 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron at 8 Wing Trenton.
Brian R. Smith, a former Belleville city councillor and long-time member of the health care community in the Quinte region, took over the post from Dr. John Bonn, during a ceremony Wednesday morning.
Dr. Bonn had held the job since February 28, 2012.
Smith’s responsibilities will include fostering esprit de corps, developing, promoting and sustaining strong community support for the unit and working as a liaison with unit charities, associations and the Commander.
He will also participate in parades and official functions in which the union takes part.
Smith thanked all of the members of the squadron for their advice and support so far and says he’s looking forward to maintaining 424’s customs and traditions as the squadron moves into its 76th year.
