It’s trade deadline day in the NHL and the first deal of the day involves the Belleville Senators.
Ottawa has dealt defenceman Ian Cole who was acquired from Pittsburgh as part of the Derick Brassard trade Friday night, to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Nick Moutrey and a third round draft pick. Cole had not played a game for Ottawa.
Moutrey has been playing with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters where he had 3 goals and 3 assists in 22 games. He was a 4th round pick of the Blue Jackets in 2013. He was a member of the 2016 Calder Cup champion Lake Erie Monsters.
Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee, who is also the GM of the Belleville Senators confirms that the 22-year-old Moutrey will be joining the local AHL team.
