A Deseronto man was charged after speeding away from a R.I.D.E check in Belleville Monday evening.
Belleville Police were conducting a R.I.D.E program on Station Street at Farley Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. when an officer detected a strong odor of marijuana from a pickup truck.
The officer instructed the driver to pull over.
Instead, the driver accelerated and sped away southbound on Farley Avenue.
Other cruisers followed the truck but officers discontinued the pursuit due to public safety concerns.
However, police did obtain the licence plate of the vehicle and last evening (Tuesday), the driver surrendered to police.
Twenty-four-year-old Cody Brant-Maracle is charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He appears in court April 5th.
