The City of Quinte West is following a move by Belleville to purchase a Quench Buggy portable water station.
The unit includes drinking fountains and taps that can be used to fill refillable bottles with water from the municipal system, during city events and during boil water advisories.
The total cost of the unit is $45,700, plus HST.
Council also decided to spend just under $42,000 on a valve maintenance system, for work on valves throughout the municipal water system, with that equipment to be mounted on a 2018 Ford F-250 diesel truck, at a cost of just under $45,000.
The 2018 capital budget includes $100,000 for the vehicle and the Quench Buggy, with the remainder to be funded from the Trenton Water Treatment Fund Decanter project.
There is a four-month build time on the valve maintenance truck with staff hoping it will be ready for service in the spring.
