Some federal money is flowing into construction of a specialized wetland, just east of the Quinte area.
Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Mike Bossio has announced a Green Municipal Fund grant of $275,700 for Loyalist Township.
The money will be used for installation and monitoring of a constructed wetland at the Amherstview Wastewater Pollution Control Plant.
Bossio says municipalities are “crucial partners in taking action to fight climate change and protect our environment.”
Loyalist Township Mayor Bill Lowry points out the pilot project will investigate how effective constructed wetlands are as a low-cost, low energy step in wastewater treatment process.
It will act as a research site.
The project is one of 28 environmental initiatives by local governments across Ontario.
