The good news is that a 40-unit assisted housing apartment building will be built on Belleville’s Sidney Street.
The better news is that Hastings County officials are optimistic that the provincial government will help cover the extra cost of the project.
Geertsma Construction was the only bidder and the $7.38 million tender was a little over $1 million above the budget.
County C.A.O. Jim Pine says staff with the province have been eager to help with the overage and details will be released in the new year.
The apartments will be made available to people with special needs and those who are chronically homeless. Counselling and other support will be provided to the residents at no extra cost to them.
R. Morden Engineering and Contracting will be the “Home for Good” Project Manager.
