A Belleville Police officer has been recognized for his role in solving a string of bank robberies accross the province.
Detective Sergeant Pat Kellar was awarded the 2017 Canadian Banks Law Enforcement Award for exceptional efforts leading to the arrest of Zak Bayfield.
Bayfield was charged with nine offences related to bank robberies in York Region, Halton, Cobourg and most notably Belleville, where he allegedly fired a gun inside Quinte Secondary School to distract officers, before robbing a downtown bank.
The award was also recognized at the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Montreal this past summer as a testament to police teamwork and Kellar’s investigative abilities.
