The school might be locked up, at least for the time being, but the property at Hillcrest Public School near the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre is going to continue to be put to a good use.
Belleville council has voted to enter an agreement with the Hastings and Prince Edward School Board to assume maintenance of the school’s playground equipment and sports fields.
Most of the maintenance work on the Hillcrest school grounds would still be carried out by the school board.
The deal between the city and the school board is for two years.
There have been proposals calling for the property to eventually become the site of a secondary school.
