There’s an affordable housing crisis in the Quinte region.
The Hastings Housing Resource Centre and the Poverty Roundtable Hastings Prince Edward are asking for help from municipal councils, landlords and homeowners to make space for people.
The groups say there is no available rental space for those with low incomes, including the working poor.
Meanwhile, Christine Durant of the Poverty Roundtable told Quinte West council that more people would get jobs in the area if there were a regional transportation system.
An Ontario Works Shelter Allowance is just under $400 a month while the market rent for a one bedroom apartment is around $900 a month.
Poor seniors are facing the most serious challenge getting affordable housing.
Call the Hastings Housing Resource Centre for information and to offer housing space.
