The Ottawa Senators were born December 6th, 1990 in Kanata. Ben Sexton was born exactly 6 months to the day later in Kanata. The two events are linked in more ways than one after the NHL team signed the 26 year old centre to a two year – two way contract that will likely see him play with the Belleville Senators this season.
Sexton was in Belleville last Saturday for the B-Sens sweater launch. Sexton’s father Randy was part of the group that brought the NHL back to Ottawa in the early 90s. He also served as the Sens’ first President and General Manager. So for Ben Sexton, he’s returning to his roots.
Ben Sexton was a 2009 draft pick of the Boston Bruins. He has played the last 3 seasons in the AHL, including 54 games with Albany last year scoring 19 goals and 31 points. Sexton says fans will be impressed with the caliber of hockey in the American Hockey League.
Sexton’s contract will pay him $725,000 in the NHL or $165,000 with Belleville.
