The new year could dawn with a new police service for Stirling-Rawdon.
Yesterday, members of Stirling-Rawdon council heard that it’s possible OPP training could start
as soon as October for current members of the Stirling-Rawdon Police Service that wish to work
for the OPP.
If the training takes place in October, the OPP would begin policing the community in January.
The other option is training in February with an OPP takeover in the May/June period.
Officials with the Ontario Provincial Police have been working with Stirling-Rawdon Chief Dario Cecchin to
gather municipal police records and operational files ahead of the transition.
It’s expected Stirling-Rawdon taxpayers will end up spending $300,000 a year less for policing under the OPP.
