The College announced that three students and a graduate of the College’s Film and Television Production Ontario College Diploma program received Broadcast Educators Association of Canada (BEAC) Awards at the 2017 National Student Awards Gala on May 26.
Students Sarah Michael, Simon Sheehan and Liam Thompson received the award for Best Short Documentary and the prestigious President’s Award for Best Overall Video Production for “Flying Without Feet.” Linden Roy received the Best Transmedia – Fiction Award for “The Storm.”
“The calibre of storytelling emerging from the Film and Television Production program is truly remarkable,” said Kathleen Bazkur, Dean of the School of Media, Arts + Design and Continuing Education. “Our students and graduates captivate audiences, bring narratives to life and continue to raise the bar. Hard work yields great accomplishments and we’re proud of their success.”
The BEAC National Student Awards Program recognizes and rewards the unique combination of creativity and technical excellence demonstrated by students in radio, television/video, and new media taught in BEAC member institutions. There are 12 awards in the video category and eight audio awards. This year BEAC introduced a new category with two additional awards: Transmedia – Fiction and Transmedia – Factual. In addition, the best of the best is selected from both the audio and video categories and awarded the President’s Award (a cash prize).
