Flooded and muddy fields, continuing rainy days, mean a disastrous planting season for Quinte area farmers.
Whether it’s planting new crops or fertilizing the winter wheat, farmers are having a tough time.
Ontario Grain Farmers District 13 Director Lloyd Crowe says “it’s been a war, a battle…it’s terrible, terrible…going through the mud to fertilize the wheat.”
Thousands of acres across the Quinte area are still waiting to be planted, and the winter wheat harvest should occur in a few weeks.
Crowe says the farmers have insurance but the situation is “pretty discouraging.”
