Belleville is finding it difficult to meet its student doctor recruitment campaign.
A couple of years ago, city council decided to recruit two student family doctors a year, at $150,000 each, including specialists occasionally.
The city is three student doctors behind in this goal, none last year and only one so far in 2017.
Manager of Economic Development Karen Poste says the idea was to never poach doctors from other communities.

Poste says it’s difficult since retired doctors have 3,000 patients but new doctors take much fewer so two or three doctors are needed to up the number of patients.
The city has just announced that dermatologist student Dr. Laura Picket has joined the program and will begin a practice here in December 2018.
