Construction on the addition and renovations to Marmora Senior Public School will begin next month.
The Hastings and Prince Edward School Board has approved a $4.5 million tender for the work, to Garritano Brothers Limited, of Oshawa.
The upgrades to the school are being made to accommodate the move of JK to grade three students from Earl Prentice Public School in March of 2018, who will join the current grade four to grade eight students already housed at Marmora Senior Public.
The work includes the addition of five new classrooms and a new double-size gym, a new front entrance and main office and building renewal needs.
The plan also includes a renovation of the existing gym into a learning commons and library space.
The community is also being asked to vote for a name for the new consolidated school.
Those choices include Crowe River Public School, Crowe Valley Public School, Marmora Elementary School, or Marmora Public School.
