UPDATE: Environment Canada upgraded the storm watch to a warning at 5:50 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect across the Quinte region.
On Monday, Environment Canada issued the watch for Belleville, Quinte West, Northumberland County, Prince Edward County and Greater Napanee.
The alert said conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h and heavy rain Monday afternoon and early evening.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches
