A lockdown and search are underway at Collins Bay Institution, after an inmate was assaulted late last week.
Without providing specifics, Assistant Warden Wayne Buller says several inmates were involved in a fight, around 9:00 p.m. last Thursday and one was evaluated by staff and immediately taken to an outside hospital.
The extent of those injuries is unknown but Buller says no other inmates, or staff members, were hurt during the fracas.
The OPP’s Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad and prison staff are looking into the incident and all visits have been suspended until further notice.
The Correctional Service of Canada will also be reviewing what happened and may take further preventative measures.
