Businesses in Prince Edward County were treated to a special visit from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau this weekend.
On Sunday, social media posts from Hinterland Wine Company, County Road Beer and Mayor Robert Quaiff were all abuzz with news that PM Trudeau and wife Grégoire Trudeau were in the County.
PM Justin Trudeau’s itinerary for Sunday stated he would be making a personal visit to Prince Edward County. No other details were listed.
Hinterland Wine Co. tweeted, “It was a pleasure to host our PM Justin Trudeau and Sophie with friends County Road Beer.”
County Road Beer tweeted. “It was an honour to meet PM Justin Trudeau and we wish Sophie a happy birthday tomorrow!”
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau turns 42 on Monday.
Mayor Robert Quaiff also took to Facebook to post a photo depicting security detail. “It’s not everyday the Prime Minister and his wife bicycle by your house and say hello,” Mayor Quaiff posted.
“Sophie’s birthday is tomorrow and they wanted a nice little getaway,” the mayor said in an interview with Quinte News. “People in Prince Edward County are so understanding that they wouldn’t bother them. During his campaign while in Belleville I had a chance to speak with him and he wanted to get here as he has heard so much about us and his father (Pierre Trudeau) visited in the past. It is such an honour that they selected this piece of paradise to relax.”
