The Executive Director of the Community Development Council of Quinte thinks Ontario’s new housing rules, proposed this week, are a good start, but the follow through is what’s important.
Of the province’s 16 recommendations to calm the overheated housing market, Ruth Ingersoll says new rules on rent controls may be of the most benefit to people in Quinte.
Ingersoll adds that when you have people spending the majority of their income on housing, it leads to many other socioeconomic issues.
Ingersoll says she also hopes the province does work with municipalities, as it says it will, to identify vacant land that can be used for affordable housing as well.
