Quinte West saw a large increase in the number of its employees making over $100,000 in 2016.
The number of employees on the “sunshine list” almost doubled from 26 to 42.
In a staff report presented to council Monday night, Director of Corporate and Financial Services David Clazie said the increase was due to equity payouts with CUPE that occurred in 2016.
“This was in the works for several years and paid retroactive amounts to some positions going back to 2008,” Clazie wrote. “Because of the length of time for the payout, some positions that would not normally appear on this list were pushed over the $100,000 threshold.”
The three top earners are Water and Waste Water Treatment Plant operators Geoff Smith at $174,847; Scott Reid at $166,513 and Douglas Villeneuve at $165,970.
Senior city officials on the upper end of the list include: Chief Administrative Officer Charlie Murphy $163,180; Director of Public Works and Environmental Services Chris Angelo at $151,082; Director of Corporate and Financial Services/Treasurer David Clazie at $142,582 and Director of Planning and Development Services Brian Jardine at $135,452.
15 members of the Quinte West fire department are on the list with Fire Chief John Whalen earning the most at $135,452, full-time fire fighter Scott Saylor a close second at $134,885, Fire Prevention Officer Greg King earns $121,568 and Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Smith $121,195.
