A tender call closes tomorrow (Friday) afternoon for the general contractor’s job for Phase 3 of the downtown Belleville revitalization project.
Thirty-four tender packages have been picked up, but most of them by sub-trades or construction associations.
City staff expect there will be very few qualified tenders for the job at the end of the day.
There were only 2 qualified tenders for each of Phases 1 and 2. Len Corcoran Excavating was the chosen bidder both times.
Corcoran Excavating is bidding on Phase 3.
Staff say a downtown revitalization project is complex, and very few contractors in this region are geared up for such work.
The budget for Phase 3 is $12 million. There are $13.1 million left in the downtown revitalization budget, which totals almost $35 million.
City council will likely choose a general contractor late this month.
