A Belleville woman is one of ten women who have been honoured by L’Oreal Paris for their volunteer work.
In its inaugural award for “Ten Canadian Women of Worth”, the company has announced that Betty Lorraine Cornelius, the founder of CanGrands Kinship National Support, will receive a $10,000 grant for her organization.
Cangrands is a not-for-profit organization that assists kinship families across Canada through online forums, support groups, legal advice and other resources.
Cornelius told Quinte News she campaigned for an amendment to the Childrend’s Law Reform Act giving grandparents a voice petitioning the courts for access to their grandchildren.
Cornelius said she raised one grandchild but was kept away from her other grandchild by the child’s mother.
CanGrands could be in line for another $10,000, the winner to be announced on Wednesday.
Cornelius will receive her award at an awards gala in Toronto on International Women’s Day, this Wednesday.
