Thanks mainly to the commitment of concerned residents, donors and other viewers TV Ontario says it will continue sending free broadcast signals across eight over-the-air transmitters, including the one in Belleville.
In a press release issued today, TVO says it’s backtracking on its original plan to decommission all of the transmitters, which would save the company about $1 million annually.
The decision was made after consulting with the Government of Ontario, the network’s primary funding provider and should be welcome news to viewers in the Quinte Region.
Other towers that are staying up include Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Chatham, Cloyne, Kitchener, London and Windsor.
