4:00 p.m. UPDATE: OPP Constable Steve Bates tells Quinte News the train has moved away from the area on Townline Road and OPP are no longer on the scene. Bates says while he “doesn’t expect any traffic issues in the area” anymore, there may be CP Rail investigators still on the scene.
Police say two adults and a student scrambled off a school bus just before a train crashed into it this morning near Colborne.
Northumberland OPP constable Steve Bates says around 7:40 a.m. emergency crews responded to Townline Road between County Road 31 and County Road 2 in Cramahe Township.
Bates says the bus driver stopped at the tracks and opened his door as part of track-crossing protocol and the bus’ front wheels became stuck after it moved forward slightly. He adds thankfully no one was injured in the crash.
Bates said the bus was heavily damaged.
Townline Road is closed to traffic at this time and a stop train order is in place.
Police say they will be provide updates as the information becomes available.
