VIOLENT CRIME
The third quarter of last year was a less violent one in the City of Belleville than in 2015.
The Belleville Police Service reports investigating 95 assaults last July, August, and September.
For the same three months in 2015, there were 154 assaults.
Meanwhile, the number of sex offences was also down considerably in the third quarter of last year when compared to 2015.
Belleville police investigated 19 incidents involving sex related charges in the third quarter last year, but in 2015 the number of offenses was more than double, totalling 40.
THEFTS
There weren’t as many robberies and break and enters in the City of Belleville in the third quarter of last year compared to the same 3 months of 2015.
The Belleville Police Service reports 4 robberies and 64 break and enters in the months from July through August last year.
Meanwhile, in the third quarter of 2015, there were 83 break and enters and 11 robberies.
ILLEGAL DRUGS
Belleville’s police officers arrested 9 people in drug investigations during the third quarter of last year, laying a total of 36 charges.
The Belleville Police Service reports seizing $77,000 worth of illegal drugs during the months of July, August, and September, comprised of cocaine, marijuana, and marijuana plants.
Meanwhile, as part of the drug investigations, close to $5,000 cash was seized, as well as brass knuckles and bear spray.
LICENSED PREMISES
Problems in and around bars are a steady source of work for Belleville police officers.
In the third quarter of last year, city police responded to a total of 81 incidents in or near licensed establishments.
A total of 17 people were arrested as a result of offences in July, August and September.
Fights or other disturbances were the most common type of problem in or around bars.
Officers dealt with 51 disturbances in the third quarter.
